Montelupo Fiorentino > History of Montelupo
It was the nineteenth century, with the construction of the Florence – Pisa railway line, that brought the renewal of ceramics production to the nearby Capraia area, operated by the Bardi family and then the Fanciullacci family.
These latter moved to Montelupo in 1911 and were, in reality, the main
founders of the latest local ceramics business.

industry, run by the Fanciullacci brothers of Montelupo, around the 1920’s.
Today Montelupo has returned to being one of the major Italian centres for
the production of ceramics, including the productive district of Empoli, one
of the most active regions of Tuscany.
