Montelupo Fiorentino > History of Montelupo
It is towards the end of the thirteenth century that Florence starts to
organize its own rural area, in a network, gradually turning it into the
first stages of a unified township.
Montelupo receives a magistrate, sent by the city, for the administration of
justice and to carry out locally the complex functions of a governing
official.
The
magistrate’s office of Montelupo, which is eventually given legal
recognition in 1416, with successive modifications and adjustments, extended
its influence also to the other side of the Arno, even including Capraia.
One of the files on the Official Records of the Civil Proceedings remained
with the Local Historical Archive of Montelupo Fiorentino. »»
